Job Description

DiverseGOV, a division of Diverse Staffing is currently seeking a student or recent graduate for a full-time Chemistry Lab Tech/Administrative position for a Government position on our Diverse Staffing team. The Chemistry Lab Tech hired by us, will work at US Secret Service, at 950 H. Street Washington, DC 20223.
The pay rate is $15.11. The Chemistry Lab Tech will work 40 hours per week/8 hours per day Monday to Friday between the hours of 7:00 am and 5:00 pm, except Federal holidays and Office closures. This position will require an extensive federal background check and credit check that could take up to 8 weeks. The start date is July 19, 2021.

The Diverse Staffing Chemistry Lab Tech supports the US Secret Service’s Forensic Services Division (FSD) by performing the following tasks:
  • Validate the XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence) instrument;
  • Add new writing ink, inkjet ink, and toner samples to the standard specimen collection.
  • Running Thin Layer Chromatography Plates on new inks acquired for the International Ink Library;
  • Add meta data associated with each sample to a MS Access database.
  • Solicit ink companies for new samples for the library.
  • Working on the ink Jet Printer library; by running TLC plates and categorizing them according to results.
  • Other validation studies of scientific equipment, as needed,
  • Mix solvent systems for chromatography.
  • Aid in other forensic related duties and research, as needed, including but not limited to:
    • Support the evidence vault to help automate the tracking of evidence through an electronic chain of custody and case throughput.
    • May work on other projects including but not limited to: latent print development research, ink and/or paper research, and internal validation studies.
    • Assist in research and analysis of current publications on processes, standards, and law reviews related to scientific disciplines
    • Scan and electronically link library articles to the various FSD libraries.

Job Requirements

Requirements: 
  • US Citizenship 
  • Current student or recent graduate from an accredited educational institution.
  • Must submit college transcript demonstrating 30 credit hours in Chemistry
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background investigation provided by US Secret Service.
  • Pass a credit check (no delinquent taxes, collections, account delinquencies or bankruptcies)
